I love my city. There's not another place in the universe I'd rather live than the South Side of Chicago. From buying tube socks and Frooties on Stony Island, to the gentrification-proof history in Bronzeville, and even to the bar crawl in my home neighborhood of Beverly/Morgan Park. But the killing has got to stop. This shit has got to stop. It may sound good when rappers say it, but being the murder capital of the nation isn't something to be proud of. King Richard has banned handguns, one of the few times he's done anything admirable, yet, as of today, we have more murders in this city than New York. In case that doesn't ring a loud enough bell, NYC has nearly 3 times as many people as we do. I know the issue is complex and the guilt just can't thrown at one person/cause, but the solution isn't as unreachable. Treat people with respect, please. If you have a problem with someone, don't reach for your waistband. If you're trying to feed yourself, your kids, whoever, there are ways to eat not involving ending someone's life. There are places in this city refugees wouldn't even feel safe in.

And to King Richard, it's obvious that everything you've done in this city for at least the last 5 years has been to get the Olympics here in 2016. Well, I don't give a flying fuck how many projects you tear down, parks you build, poor people you kick out of their neighborhoods, and diplomatic appearances you make, it's pretty damn hard to pitch the MURDER CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to the IOC. Actually, on second thought, maybe that distinction will get us the rifle shooting events.
